Grimsby is surrounded by beautiful countryside with easy access to miles of sandy beaches; Grimsby has excellent shopping and leisure facilities to suit all age groups. Most famous for its fishing port, Grimsby is now established as NE Lincolnshire's main centre of commerce with its thriving retail trade and active nightlife. Nearby Cleethorpes is a long-established family resort, famous for its miles of clean, golden sands, beautiful parks and restful gardens. It has one of the few remaining English piers totally refurbished, with nightclub, bars and a restaurant. Located on the A180/M180 Grimsby offers easy access to the A1, M1 and central motorway networks, as well as Humberside Airport only 20 minutes drive away.
The Future Regeneration of Grimsby
Grimsby is currently undergoing an Urban Renaissance and Regeneration Programme. Over the next 5 years through Yorkshire Forward Funding, NELC Funding and Private Sector Investment Opportunities nearly £50m will be invested to improve Grimsby.
Phase 1, Victoria Street Pedestrianisation Scheme - This project is an initial element in the package of Regeneration and Renaissance projects and aims to deliver a thriving sub-regional town centre which has an improved quality environment, integrated public transport and a vibrant economy. Investment into quality urban realm will attract private investment and add to the thriving town centre enabling job creation.
Further regeneration of the Town Centre include projects such as improving the gateways and linkages into the Town Centre, urban realm improvements in St James Square, Riverhead Square, Civic Quarter and Alexandra Dock, the re-development of the Cartergate Site and the possible re-location of the Bus Station. These areas were identified as areas in need of improvement by the residents of Grimsby through public engagement. Work is currently been undertaken to drive these projects forward.
